Port-au-Prince

Port-au-Prince is the capital of Haiti and the location of SALSA d'Haiti corporate headquarters.  The bustling city is home to almost half of Haiti's 7 million people and has a rich history as the capital of first independent country in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Though devastated as a result of the 2010 earthquake, the city is on the rebound.   Nightclubs, restaurants, hotels and museums are open once again to invite the world to experience the Haiti that has shaped the lives of famous Haitian entertainers and artists, as well as the wonderful people of Port-au-Prince.  The suburb of Petionville hosts some of the finest French restaurants outside of France, as well as some of the most popular night spots in Haiti.

Port-au-Prince is home to Haiti's largest seaport and some of the Caribbean’s largest companies.  The downtown area offers a true taste of Creole life.  From artisans selling beautiful handmade wood and ceramic goods to skilled painters displaying unique works of art, the sights and smells of Port-au-Prince, along with the wonderful Haitian people, will make a memorable stop on any journey.

The architecture, even after the devastating earthquake, is still a sight to behold.  18th century gingerbread houses still stand in the middle of Port-au-Prince and surrounding the Camps de Mars lie the remains of the once beautiful Presidential Palace with the Haitian flag still flying proudly on top.  Nearby, the remains of the Port-au-Prince Cathedral make a powerful statement to the spirit and perseverance of Haiti and its people.

A trip to the mountains brings you a world away.  Less than one hour drive from the Port-au-Prince airport brings you almost 1 kilometer (about 1/2 a mile) above the city below.  On many of the terraced cafes, hotels and restaurants, you can view the entire Port-au-Prince area, if you can look down through the clouds!

SALSA d'Haiti offers 5 daily flights from Cap Haitien to Port-au-Prince.  In Port-au-Prince, SALSA also connects to its interline partners, including daily connections with Insel Air International to Miami, as well as other airlines with destinations worldwide.  For local assistance with reservations or customer service issues, please call our Port-au-Prince office at 2813-1222 during business hours, seven days a week.

Cap Haitien

Cap Haitien, Haiti - Cap Haitien International Airport (CAP)

Cap Haitien, once noted as the "Riviera of the Caribbean", is the home of SALSA d'Haiti  reservations and operations centers.  The second largest city in Haiti boasts miles of pristine beaches and has become a truly international city with residents and visitors from almost every corner of the world.

Located on the northern shore of Haiti, near the border with the Dominican Republic, the nearby city of Santiago is visible across the sea.  Walking through the city, surrounded by the narrow row houses that have been depicted in countless paintings through the centuries, you feel at once both away and at home.   The people of Cap Haitien take pride in their city and its history as Haiti's first capital.

A short drive to the south brings you into the mountains surrounding the city and at the same time, brings you back to the roots of Haitian history.  Atop the Bonnet a L’Eveque mountain sits Citadelle Laferrière (also known simply as "The Citadelle"), built by Henri Christophe (later King Henri I of Haiti) as part of a system of fortresses in the early 19th century to protect the newly independent nation of Haiti from invading naval forces.  The architecture of the fortress looks more in place in southern France than in the northern Caribbean.

Back in the city itself, a visit to the beautiful Cathedral Notre-Dame of Cap Haitien is a must see for any trip to the north of Haiti.  Built in the late 18th century, it stands as a home to the faithful and a building of wonderment at the preservation of history.

To the northwest lies the village of Labadee. This active port hosts cruise ships from Royal Caribbean, including the world's largest Oasis-class vessels.  While the port area itself is private, the village surrounding the port offer some of the best that the Caribbean has to offer including beaches, restaurants and hotels.

Whether you are a professional (or amature) historian, business person, or just looking to be surprised at what Haiti can offer, Cap Haitien is a destination that has something you are looking for!
